Події відбуваються у 1925 році в засніженому місті Номі. Балто уникає людей і їздових собак, адже його походження викликає недовіру. Коли в місті спалахує епідемія дифтерії, а негода перекриває всі шляхи, єдина надія — доставити ліки через снігову пустелю. Команда собак вирушає в небезпечну дорогу, і Балто стає частиною цієї подорожі. На маршруті герої стикаються з хуртовинами, втомою та випробуваннями, які змушують Балто взяти на себе відповідальність і діяти всупереч страхам.
