7 грудня 1988 року в Вірменії стався землетрус, що охопило майже половину території республіки. Було зруйновано понад 300 населених пунктів. 25 тисяч людей загинули, 19 тисяч стали інвалідами, більше півмільйона залишилися без даху над головою. На тлі природної катастрофи розгортається історія двох героїв - 45-річного Костянтина Бережного та 20-річного Роберта Мелконяна. Доля зіштовхує їх не вперше - багато років тому в автокатастрофі з вини Бережного загинули батьки Роберта. Костянтин провів кілька років у в'язниці, а маленького Роберта поселили родичі. За дивним збігом обставин Бережний повертається до своєї сім'ї в день страшного землетрусу: його чекають дружина, дочка, син... і Роберт, який так і не пробачив йому загибелі своїх батьків. За іронією долі, герої опиняються в одному рятувальному загоні, але впізнають один одного не відразу.

"Seasons of the Year" was the last collaboration of Armenia's two most important documentary auteurs: Artavazd Peleshian and Mikhail Vartanov. The first was Autumn Pastoral (1971) written by Peleshian and directed by Vartanov. Peleshian's brilliant "Seasons of the Year" is one of the three most important documentary films made in Armenia along with Sergei Parajanov's Hakob Hovnatanyan (1967) and Vartanov's Parajanov: The Last Spring (1992). "Seasons of the Year" is an outstanding look at the co-existence of nature and people and is the first film made by Peleshian without the use of archival footage thanks to Vartanov's exquisite cinematography and wizardry in the lab.
