Життя 17-річної Вероніки Міллер перевертається догори ногами, коли її батьки розлучаються, і батько перебирається в місто Вілмінгтон, Нью-Йорк. Це було три роки тому, але її злість не проходить, і дівчина відчужує від себе батьків, особливо батька.Незважаючи на це, вона проти своєї волі їде до нього на літо, але їх відносини як і раніше залишають бажати кращого. Тато Вероніки - колишній піаніст і вчитель, що проживає в прибережному містечку. Тепер він працює над створенням картини, яку виставлять в місцевій церкві. Намагаючись налагодити контакт з дочкою, батько звертається по допомогу до музики, їх єдиному з Веронікою спільному інтересу.
