Фільм розповідає про світ моди в Лондоні 1950-х років. Один з найпопулярніших модельєрів Лондона Рейнольдс Вудкок (Дей-Люїс), послугами якого користувалися члени королівської сім'ї та представники вищого суспільства Лондона, після знайомства з новою музою Альмою починає помічати, як руйнується його життя.

Група бійців норвезького опору отримує завдання дістатися до північно-західного норвезького узбережжя на судні «Браттхольм» і зробити диверсію на одній з німецьких авіаційних баз. Але місія зазнала фіаско ще в морі: судно було атаковане німецьким кораблем і потоплено. Єдиною людиною, якій вдалося врятуватися, виявився Ян Болсруд. Йому вдається дістатися до берега і бігти в сторону шведського кордону. Переслідуваний гестапо, Болсруд шукає притулок в горах. Тут його наздоганяє снігова буря, він ховається в печері, яка є смертельною пасткою.
