Сюжет
У віддаленому японському селі існує давній конфлікт між лісорубами, які поклоняються богині гір, і рибалками, що вшановують богиню моря. Їхні традиції та вірування формують життя громади, але зовнішній світ приносить загрозу у вигляді проєкту морського парку. Герой Тацуо, сильний і впертий лісоруб, опиняється між тиском сім’ї, місцевими підозрами та власними почуттями до колишньої коханої Кіміко, яка повертається у село. Коли починаються саботажі та звинувачення, напруга зростає, а під час фестивалю вогню конфлікт традицій і сучасності вибухає остаточно.
