В основу сюжету міні-серіалу лягла реальна трагедія у Вейко, що сталася навесні 1993 року. Ситуація виникла неочікувано: ФБР запідозрило жителів невеличкого ранчо Маунт-Кармел, де розташовувалася сектантська організація «Гілка Давидова», у незаконному зберіганні зброї і вирішило перевірити обґрунтованість своїх підозр, улаштувавши облаву. Проте сектанти раптом почали відстрілюватися, і перестрілка переросла у неймовірно довгу облогу тривалістю 51 день!
