Сенатор конгресу Джаспер Ірвінг (Круз) збирається надати сенсаційну інформацію про нову військову політику журналістці, котра займається розслідуванням (Стріп). У цей же час в університеті Західного узбережжя відбувається конфлікт між доктором Меллі (Редфорд) та студентом, який хоче кинути усе і вирушити воювати.
