Impoverished people in modern secular India find their wishes being fulfilled after leaving a written request at a Bhagwan Shri Murugan/Shivji Mandir. A disbelieving DIG of Police instructs his team to investigate but ends up frustrated when they themselves become believers and devotees. He then assigns this case to Ravi Sharma, an atheist, with hopes of apprehending the suspect, a CBI Officer, Kanthaswamy/Krishna, who works with the Economics Offenses Wing, and had publicly exposed many high-profile cases, including the wealthy Ponnusamy/Padmanath. This results in the latter getting paralyzed and his enraged daughter, Subbalakshmi, swearing to avenge this humiliation by attempting to ensnare Kanthaswamy in a web of lies and deceit - while the police continue to be baffled by repeated sightings of a caped crusader - who not only appears to have superpowers but can also fly.

14-year-old Sikandar Raza has been living with his uncle and aunt in Kashmir, ever since his parents were killed by militants 10 years ago. The young boy, who dreams of a better life for his family by realizing his football talent, is a bit of a loner at school and an easy target for the school bullies. One day on his way home from a school football match, Sikandar finds a pistol lying on the path. Despite being warned against it by his new friend Nasreen, Sikandar picks up the pistol believing it to be the answer to his problems. When playing with the pistol alone in the woods, Sikandar meets a young man who teaches him how to be a great shot, but the young man is not who he seems and Sikandar innocently becomes caught up in political warfare. Although the quiet Nasreen acts as Sikandar's conscience, Sikandar gets further embroiled in situations beyond his control, and innocent people get killed. As the story unfolds we see that Sikandar is an innocent victim in a game being played out between the militants, the army, the peace-bartering Politians and religious heads of the little Kashmiri town.

Martin quickly learns of the rampant corruption at his camp, led by the sadistic foreman, Fisk, who orders Martin to inflate his hours worked, and keep on the payroll those men who he has banished from the camp in order to pocket their wages. Those banished men are left to fend for themselves since they are provided no means of transportation out and have no money. They survive living off the scraps of food from the camp's dump, which is why they're referred to as the "garbage eaters". After Martin thinks that Fisk has killed one of the garbage eaters, Martin decides to do what he believes is right by going against Fisk and mobilizing the disparate group of garbage eaters, all at the risk of his personal safety. What may be working on Martin's side are the facts that he has been able to tame Fisk's security and attack dog, King, and that the camp's cook, Prudhomme, who has his own demons, dislikes the sight of human blood.
