Подібно до того, як Святий Петро охороняє двері Раю небесного, шеф поліції Джесі Стоун оберігає спокій громадян Раю земного - маленького містечка на півночі США. І коли по окрузі прокочується епідемія непояснених і на перший погляд не пов'язаних між собою вбивств, тільки незворушний як камінь і хитромудрий як лис детектив Стоун здатний розгадати їх таємницю і визначити хто ж вбивця.Однак навіть він спочатку не може знайти зачіпки в цій похмурій справі - поки на його порозі не з'явиться 16-річна дівчина, чия заява про зґвалтування несподіваним і парадоксальним способом проливає світло на криваві події останніх днів ...

And Steve, whose Michigan basement contains a plywood shelter shored up with several years' worth of food and water.
