Морський біолог Джек Елвей і його син Брендон вирушили до полінезійського острова Малау для вивчення впливу останньої сейсмічної активності на морське життя району. Поряд з місцевим доктором Елісон Харт вони досить скоро опиняться в самому епіцентрі розслідуванні серії недавніх утоплень з несподіваними результатами. Оскільки Джек досліджує загадкові морські істоти океану, Брендон знаходить і дружить з трьохфутовим дитинчам істоти, яке здатне виходити з океану і ходити по землі. Та коли більш небезпечні гігантські істоти приходять на острів - військові починають наступальні дії. Тож Джек повинен ризикнути усім, щоб врятувати істоти, острів і власного сина.
