Celal, lives an unhappy family life with his wife Sevilay and his child in a small town. Celal and his brother Cemal, running an electrician shop which doesn't go well. They are in debt. The only fun they have is going to the night clubs in Samsun. Celal's love for Sibel Ceylan who works in the night club, will cause him trouble. Celal's wife, Sevilay, saves her money, sent by her father who lives in Germany. She is unaware of the fact that Celal knows her secret. Living an unhappy life, Celal thinks that this money will be his salvation and makes a plan. He gets an automatic door fixed to his car. He plans to push his wife off the cliff by making it seems like an accident and he plans to possess 75.000 Euros that her wife saves. He carries out his plan but two days after his wife Sevilay comes back unexpectedly. Does she know that the one who pushed her off the cliff was Celal? She can't find the money that she saved through all those years. She wonders if her husband saw the money? Sevilay's questions confuse everybody's minds and causes both Celal and herself to go through many things in their lives.

Сюжет розгортається далеченько від Франції – в Колумбії. Колишнього чемпіона-боксера Лео, що став звичайним місцевим п’яничкою, наймає себе доглядати багата француженка, примхлива та вибаглива. Вона паралізована після автомобільної аварії, а він потребує грошей. Ці двійко людей, здається, тихо ненавидять одне одного. Але, як відомо, від ненависти до кохання – один лиш крок…Втім, напевне казати про ненависть поміж героями буде, можливо, занадто. Зате можна вести мову про їхній непростий шлях до кохання через драму життя, через співчуття, нерозуміння і порозуміння.
Із вуст Софі Марсо цей сюжет – «чудесна і правдива історія кохання». Ну а Ламбер її підтримує: «Так, надзвичайно гарно написаний сценарій. Я пам’ятаю, як в літаку до Нью-Йорка Софі жадібно його читала. Вона настільки була вражена, що я загорівся і також почав читати. Мене перейняли ті ж емоції. А найбільше сподобалась абсолютна відсутність аспекту нещастя у цьому коханні. Фільм не експлуатує тему недоліків героїв – він веде лишень про одне: разом можна подолати все! А без рідного плеча поряд ідеш на дно…».
2010 року фільм «Картахена» уперше був показаний в Україні під час Київського міжнародного кінофестивалю «Молодість». Він, власне, асистував урочистій церемонії відкиття фестивалю. І до української столиці завітали виконавці головних ролей – подружня пара Софі Марсо та Крістоф Ламбер.
Вони свого часу, а це був 2007 рік, познайомилися і фактично одружилися, коли Ламбер зіграв у Марсо в її другій повнометражній режисерській роботі – «Зникла в Довілі».
Отже, «Картахена» – Софі Марсо, Крістоф Ламбер плюс драматична історія кохання серед чудесних латиноамериканських пейзажів і дихання океану, що вона делікатно оздоблена проникливою інструментальною музикою. Мелодрама – сумна казка для дорослих.
