8.2 Сюжет
Основою фільму є життєвий шлях медіа-магната Чарльза Фостера Кейна, який пройшов від ідеалістичного «служіння суспільству» до безжальної гонитви за владою. На початку фільму Кейн помирає у своєму величезному маєтку, стискаючи в руках кришталеву кулю й вимовляючи слова «трояндовий бутон» (англ. Rosebud). Молодому репортерові доручено написати нарис про таємниці минулого Кейна, про його шлях до слави й багатства. Він розкопує багато загадкового й кримінального, але таємниця останніх слів так і залишається нерозкритою для нього (глядачам ця таємниця відкривається наприкінці фільму). Історія життя Кейна розповідається, в основному, у ретроспективних епізодах.
