1965 рік. Ендевор Морс розслідує зникнення школярки, по ходу справи розуміючи, що повертається назад в Оксфорд - до місця, яке незабаром вирішить його подальшу долю. Він бере участь в великому розслідуванні вбивства, головним інспектором якого є Фред Фьоздей. Ендевор зі справою опиняється в тупику, і його усувають від справи. Знову Зіткнувшись зі своїм не дуже приємним минулим, він вирішує почати похід в ім'я справедливості. Йому доведеться зіткнутися з безліччю неприємностей.
