Вейн Кемпбел і Ґарт Елґар - енергійні молоді хлопці, прихильники важкого року. Вони придумали і ведуть музичне телевізійне шоу «Світ Вейна», популярне в невеликому містечку Аврора (Іллінойс). Шоу попалося на очі і справило враження на керівника найбільшої американської телевізійної компанії Бенджаміна Кейна. Він пропонує хлопцям контракт, неймовірні (як думають Вейн і Ґарт) зарплати і прайм-тайм на телеканалі.Вейн закохується у вокалістку Касандру Вонг. Щоб справити враження на дівчину, йому потрібно добитися успіху і втриматися у нещадному телевізійному бізнесі. Бенджамін Кейн також небайдужий до Касандри. Між ведучими і власником телемережі назріває конфлікт. Вейн показує характер і починає вести шоу так, як сам вважає за потрібне.
