20 років пройшло після подій описаних в "Талановитом містері Ріплі". Тому Ріплі вже одружений і живе у Франції. Але, одного разу на вечірці відбувається неприємний інцидент, під час якого Тома ображає людина, що займає нижче соціальне положення. Це стає вагомою причиною для помсти... І тепер Том потребує послуг найманої вбивці, щоб поклопотатися про своїх ворогів, для чого він укладає угоду з нічого непідозрюючим англійцем хворим на лейкемію і дуже потребуючому в грошах для своєї сім'ї. Він задумав узяти образи з реального життя - емоційні, сирі, відверті картини - і відрекомендувати їх в невербальній, нелінійній формі, створивши, таким чином, свого роду кіноконцерт, він задумав трилогію "Каці".
