У часи династії Цін група антицинських патріотів під проводом Хо Куан-ханя таємно діє в Кантоні, маскуючись під учителів і шкільних наставників. Коли маньчжурська влада проводить жорстокий напад, гине багато невинних, а родина юного героя опиняється винищеною. Йому вдається втекти й зберегти головне — бажання чинити опір. Переслідуваний ворогами, він знаходить прихисток у храмі Шаолінь, де піддається виснажливій дисципліні та опановує приховані техніки кунг-фу. Крок за кроком він зміцнює тіло й дух, навчається володіти руками, ногами та зброєю. Завершивши навчання, герой повертається, щоб помститися маньчжурам і підтримати повстанців.
