Сотні років люди живуть у глибоких печерах, у постійному страху перед землетрусами та обвалами. В одному з таких підземних селищ живе хлопчик Сімон і його «духовний наставник» — юнак на ім’я Каміна. Каміна вірить, що нагорі є інший світ, без стін і стель; його мрія — потрапити туди. Але його мрії лишаються порожніми фантазіями, доки одного чудового дня Сімон випадково не знаходить бур... точніше, ключ від дивного залізного обличчя у товщі землі. Того ж дня сильний землетрус руйнує стелю печери — так, власне, і починається по-справжньому епічна пригода Сімона, Каміни та їхніх компаньйонів у новому для них світі: світі просто неба!
Сюжет

Kitaro is a boy living in the Gegege Forest/Cemetery (lands where many Yokai roam) with his mostly dead father (who survives only in his eye), Sunakake Babaa, NekoMusume, and Konaki Jiji. One difference between this Kitaro and all of the others that came before him, is that this one has brown hair instead of the standard grayish silver.
