An unpopular U.S. President manages to get a nuclear disarmament treaty through the Senate, but finds that the nation is turning against him. Jiggs Casey, a Marine Colonel, finds evidence that General Scott, the wildly popular head of the Joint Chiefs and certain Presidential Candidate in 2 years is not planning to wait. Casey goes to the president with the information and a web of intrigue begins with each side unsure of who can be trusted.

Колишній ув’язнений після виходу з в’язниці змушений брати участь у пограбуванні броньованого автомобіля на іподромі. Його шантажує впливовий кримінальний бос, який використовує його слабкості. Герой опиняється між виживанням і моральним вибором, намагаючись захистити сестру. План пограбування поступово виходить з-під контролю. Піж час Другої Світової війни герой фільму Максим, відступаючи разом з військами, залишає рідне українське село. Через роки, після завершення війни, Максим приїздить назад – працювати агрономом. Він закохується у Дусю, в якій впізнає дівчинку, що приносила молоко під час війни. Фільм оповідає не лише про кохання Максима та Дусі, а й про боротьбу головного героя з нечесним головою колгоспу.
