Adolfo, a railroad engineer, is sent to a provincial station to investigate a series of thefts from trains. The investigation uncovers the existence of an unknown gang, led by a man named Ruby, who finds ways of committing their crimes in broad daylight. Director García Moreno received the full cooperation of the National Railroad in the making of the film, and it still stands today as a document of the great technological advances made in Mexico during the 1920s.

Перша екранізація біографії Тараса Шевченка. На момент створення фільм був однією з найдорожчих постановок: уперше для підготовки до фільмування були залучені спеціалісти з історії, етнографії, літературознавства. Художнє оформлення фільму створив видатний художник-модерніст академік Василь Кричевський.Складений з багатьох новел фільм, що ілюструє життя Шевченка-юнака, солдата, поета, з успіхом ішов в Україні та закордоном і став найуспішнішим кінопроєктом 1926 року. Роль Тараса Шевченка у фільмі виконав Амвросій Бучма.
Демонструвався також скорочений варіант фільму під назвою “Тарасове життя” (“Маленький Тарас”), створений Чардиніним у співавторстві з дружиною Маргаритою Барською-Чардиніною й орієнтований на дитячу аудиторію.
