У Берліні 1986 року економіст Йон Мін робить фатальну помилку: піддавшись обіцянкам безпеки, погоджується перейти на Північ. Швидко усвідомивши пастку, він тікає до Західної Німеччини, але втрачає зв’язок із сім’єю. Відтепер за ним стежать спецслужби різних країн, кожна з яких хоче використати його у власних цілях. Між політичними інтригами, шпигунством і болісною тугою за рідними Йон Мін бореться за свободу та шанс знову побачити тих, кого залишив. Upon the retirement of the father, who has been a teacher at Cheorwon Technical High School, mother, two sons and daughters-in-law gather in Cheorwon. The retirement ceremony is rather quiet, and father drops the bombshell at a Chinese restaurant while eating. When he announces he will get a divorce, mother is so angry she doesn’t know what to say, and the sons and daughters-in-law are confused. Heavy snow hits Cheorwon keeping the buses from operating, and the family start an awkward time at the father’s residence.
