Авантюра, яку влаштовує керуючому кабінетом міністрів, спричиняє, що він стає героєм вечору. Так розпочинається карколомна кар'єра Нікодема Дизми.Серіал реалізований на підставі однойменної повісті Тадеуша Доленги-Мостовича. Написана повість була з потреби... помсти. Журналіст в одній із своїх статей критично відізвався про керування Юзефа Пілсудського. Той, в свою чергу, обурений тоном статті, наслав на Доленгу-Мостовича посіпак, які скатували молодого журналіста. У відповідь Доленга-Мостович створив дану повість, як сатиру на політичний салон двадцятих років у Польщі. Головним героєм вчинив недалекого провінційного поштового урядника, який завдяки випадку підноситься на вершину політичної влади.
Як на той час це був доволі сміливий крок журналіста. Але якби ж то догадувався Доленга-Мостович, наскільки дійсність через 80-90 років переплюне навіть найсміливіші його припущення...
Сюжет
Безробітний урядник провінційної пошти Нікодем Дизма вирушає до Варшави в пошуках роботи. Випадково на вулиці знаходить запрошення на урядовий раут. Авантюра, яку влаштовує керуючому кабінетом міністрів, спричиняє, що він стає героєм вечору. Так розпочинається карколомна кар'єра Нікодема Дизми.Серіал реалізований на підставі однойменної повісті Тадеуша Доленги-Мостовича. Написана повість була з потреби... помсти. Журналіст в одній із своїх статей критично відізвався про керування Юзефа Пілсудського. Той, в свою чергу, обурений тоном статті, наслав на Доленгу-Мостовича посіпак, які скатували молодого журналіста. У відповідь Доленга-Мостович створив дану повість, як сатиру на політичний салон двадцятих років у Польщі. This series was written by Marian Pilot, one of the leading representatives of the so-called 'peasant trend' in contemporary Polish literature. The writer outlined the image of the village at the turn of the 1980s on the example of the Małolepsza family from the village of Gudzewo. They manage a few hectares, the older children left for the city, they settled in, one of the sons even became a lawyer. Twenty-year-old Bolek stayed with his parents, a boy willing to "fight and drink", wandering with his peers as crude as he was, lonely, because most of the girls fled to the city.

After taking part in the failed uprising, he is sentenced to exile in Siberia. Upon return to Warsaw, he becomes a salesman. Marrying the late shop owner's widow, he becomes rich, He uses his money set up a partnership with a Russian merchant, met in the exile. The two makes a fortune supplying the Russian army.
Wokulski falls in love with Izabela, daughter of the bankrupt aristocrat. In his quest to win her, he ventures theatres and aristocratic salons. To help her financially distressed father, he founds a company with the aristocrats as shareholders. Wokulski ability to make money is respected, but his lack of social rank is often brought. Izabela eventually accepts his affection, but without true devotion or love.
