Тільки дочка з двома друзями, один з яких генерал, зуміла втекти і продовжити боротьбу. Фільм починається з показу павука, що плете сітку на тлі величної природи: засніжені гори, зелені ліси, обрамлені прекрасними водоспадами. Павутина у фільмі стає символом. Павук, пряде шар за шаром, розкидає мережу. І далі у фільмі ми побачимо, як молодий учений Ку, що допомагає бунтівникам, винаходивши план захисту, наслідує природу, стаючи павуком, що пряде мережу і розставляє пастку, в яку попадуться люди євнуха. Але це буде пізніше. А починається він як історія про примари. У будинку ученого Ку поселяється незнайомка (Хсу Фенг), дочка убитого чиновника, яку він спочатку приймає за примара. Коли, в усьому розібравшись і попутно закохавшись в неї, він починає допомагати бунтівникам, фільм переходить до політичної інтриги, щоб врешті-решт "доторкнутися до Дзен". На перший план виходить буддистська складова фільму, щоб вибухнути у вражаючому фіналі. "Дотик Дзен" йде цілих три години, але він коштує згаяного часу. Остання битва триває понад 20 хвилин, і, хоча у фільмі багато бойових сцен (чого тільки варта вишукано зроблена сцена в бамбуковому гаї), ця запам'ятовується надовго. Головнокомандувач армії євнух Вій і два його особистих охоронця (у одному з яких можна впізнати зовсім молодого Саме Хунга) нападають на слід ученого Ку, міс Янг і генерала Шах. Але в битві майстерності євнуха вони протиставити нічого не можуть. І тоді до них на допомогу приходить головний чернець (Рой Чіяо) монастиря, де вони до цього ховалися. On the far side of middle age, business owner Vlada and his wife Milena live an upper middle class lifestyle outside of Belgrade. Without really thinking about it as they go about their day-to-day business, they are dedicated to protecting that comfortable life they've eked out for themselves and their now young adult to teenaged children, Natasha, Milos and Katarina. There is some friction between Vlada and Natasha for her anti-Serbian stance due to the atrocities exacted by the government during the Balkan War, she having written an award winning essay on the subject. Many Balkans, including Serbians, are calling for those who committed war crimes to be prosecuted. The reason for Vlada's pro-Serbian stance is that he was a soldier fighting for the Serbs during the war, he and Milena who still have among their social circle some of Vlada's fellow ex-soldiers and their now spouses and partners. Upon a visit to her physician, Milena learns that she has a lump in her left breast, she never having done a mammogram. As she contemplates her health and waits to get the lump checked out, she decides not to say anything to her family. Concurrently as she does a major cleaning of the house, Milena finds conclusive evidence that Vlada did commit war crimes when he was a soldier. These two events quietly rock Milena's rather staid world.
