Бальрам Галваі виріс у бідній індійській родині та з дитинства знає, що його доля — бути слугою. Щоб заробити на життя, він влаштовується водієм до заможної пари у Делі. Там він усе частіше стає свідком корупції та безкарності індійської соціальної верхівки. Коли роботодавці змушують Бальрама взяти на себе злочин, якого він не скоював, чоловік постає проти системи нерівності.
