5.3 Сюжет
Середньовічна південна Німеччина. Красуню Марі, дочку багатого купця, збираються видати проти її волі за незаконнонародженого сина графа фон Кайльбурга. В результаті інтриг Марі жорстоко ґвалтують, кидають у в'язницю, катують і бичують на площі. Її, напівмертву, підбирають і виходжують бродячі повії. У Марі залишилося тільки одне бажання - помститися.

Красень Людвіг, більш захоплений оперою, ніж поповненням скарбниці, і сам сумнівався, що виправдає надії батька і стане гідним наступником. Незабаром він досягне таких висот, що і вчитель і забобони будуть зупиняти його спроби проводити дослідження не відповідають епосі. Але в прагненні пізнати хвороби і способи порятунку чоловіка зможе зупинити лише власна смерть.
