Daya Shankar lived with his family in Kashmir, but then subsequently re-located to Bombay where he took to crime as a career. One day while on the run from the Police, he holes up in a small room with a young bar dancer, Simran. She shields him from the Police, and he falls in love. He finds out the bar she dances in and comes in silently to watch her perform. He had come to her rescue when she was being molested and thereafter asked her to move in with him, which she did. For sometime it was as though they seemed to be living in bliss, then all of a sudden, they were on the run again. Then Daya decided that it was time to settle down, and they adopted a young boy, Bittu, made different passports, and decided to re-locate to Dubai. That did not happen, instead Bittu gets killed, and a heart-broken Simran and Daya are forced to live apart, with Simran moving to Seoul, Korea. It is here that she meets with Akash and both fall in love, get intimate and Simran gets pregnant. Then Daya re-enters her life, disrupting it completely, beating Akash to a pulp. It is now that Simran has to decide whether to stay with Akash, get married, and have her baby, or continue to live a life on the run with Daya - who is not only on the run from the Police, but also from the underworld Don, Khan. The doctors said that she would lose her memory soon. So, she tells Tony to kill the people who killed her family because she had seen Tony beating up a bunch of people. Unknowingly, he paved the way for Vasu Anna Reddy to become the sole drug-dealer and invite his Mombasa-based brother, Vishnu, to join him. An encounter with the team kills Vasu, and some of the team gets suspended. A vengeful Vishnu decides to target the entire police unit as well as their respective families, and vows that he will not rest until he has killed them all. During March 1993, after his Ambassador car is being fished out of water, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Agnel Wilson, narrates to the Commissioner as to how he commenced his investigation against an underworld gangster, Sultan Mirza. He details how Sultan had survived floods in Madras, shortly after Independence; his arrival in Bombay; and his employment which earned him a mere 25 Paisa daily. Agnel's attempts to rein in Sultan fail, but he keeps tabs on him and his romance with Bollywood actress, Rehana; as well as his new recruit, Shoaib, the son of Sub-Inspector Khan. Agnel will find his investigation slipping out of his hands after Sultan temporarily delegates complete responsibility to Shoaib.

Karan Malhotra (Akshaye Khanna) and Priya (Amisha Patel) belong to a rock band of sorts, and are sweethearts. Karan is the leader of the group, and finds that success is not easy. With considerable difficulty Karan is able to secure a contract with the prestigious company belonging to the most eligible and wealthy bachelor, Raj Singhania (Bobby Deol). This contract entails performing on a palatial yacht owned by Raj. The group is thrilled to get this contract and practice thoroughly to make themselves a success. Karan and Priya see this as an opportunity to save money for a happily married life. A chance meeting with Priya, throws Raj head over heels in love with her. Karan notices this, but has faith in his love and Priya. But others in the group observe that Priya is reciprocating Raj's advances. Then one day Raj presents Priya with an engagement, and Priya accepts it. He asks her to accompany him to see his family, where she is introduced to everyone. His father's former mistress, Badi Rani, controls the wealth, while he himself has a mistress. Unable to procure contracts through Mantri Prabhu Tiwari, he decides to stand for elections, while his rival, Ghenda Singh, recruits an assassin, Babalu, who is also the nephew of Sunder, Chhoti Rani's chauffeur, to kill Aditya. After Sunder is unable to drive due to an injury, he recommends Babalu, and Aditya hires him. Babalu settles down in his new job, attempts to get accepted by everyone, including Chhoti Rani, who he finds attractive.
