Літо 1942 року. Франція окупована фашистською Німеччиною. Але господаря м'ясної лавки Едмона Ботіньоля присутність німецьких солдатів не дуже обтяжує, він більше стурбований тим, що ночами хтось краде з його підвалу окорока і сосиски.Його підозри падають на сусідського хлопчиська Саймона з єврейської сім'ї. Коли нацисти починають депортацію євреїв, Ботіньоль не відчуває до них особливого співчуття. Але одного разу на порозі його будинку з'являється Саймон, що втік від німців.

And Catholic Spain, in the grip of the Inquisition, is no place for Arabs, Jews and homosexuals (Saint Loup is anything but heterosexual). To make matters worse, his secretary is an undercover Protestant plotting revenge for the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre and the father of the bride turns out to be the Chief Inquisitor of Cordoba.
