Прагнучи вибудувати уявний діалог з батьком, режисерка повертається до його знімків знову й знову. В оповідь делікатно вплітаються різноманітні вигадані сюжети, що постають у процесі вивчення архіву. Вони спонукають замислитися над супротивом режиму, наслідками пережитого жаху й потенціалом фотографії у формуванні іншого майбутнього. «Непевна тінь» — це спроба збагнути, яку вагу мають світлини у політичному та особистому житті: що досі палає в них — і що вони можуть дати нам у ці часи спустошення й невизначеності.
