Simon, a Jewish police inspector, arrests Karim, a Muslim, in the bust of a drug smuggling cargo ship, only to realize that Karim is an undercover agent from the military intelligence, whose mission he was not aware of. The two men pursue the narc investigation, which will lead them to confront middle eastern terrorists together.

Lucienne's husband holds no excitement for her, and he is always away in Paris on business. Pierre is now the vice-mayor, thanks to Paul. Lucienne and Pierre have a secret meeting spot by a lake along a country lane. Pierre's wife dies suddenly, by suicide the town gossips believe. Pierre confesses otherwise to Lucienne. Paul proposes a shady land deal which will "benefit the town", and wants Pierre's political support and collusion. Then Paul discovers proof of his wife's affair...

Аківа Лібскінд представляє СРСР на чемпіонаті з шахів у швейцарській Женеві. Він непереможний, ним пишається увесь Радянський Союз, але чоловік слабкий здоров’ям, і ланцюг його перемог може обірватися будь-якої хвилини. Супротивником Якоба на чемпіонаті став Павіус Фромм, що втік з СРСР до Швейцарії. Він розумний і хитрий, зневажає правила та намагається порушити розклад супротивника і таким чином збити концентрацію Лібскінда, запізнившись на перший хід. Нахабство Фромма вражає Аківу, і він пише скаргу журі. Коли Лібскінд погрожує від'їздом, Фромм пише формальне вибачення, щоб не втратити шанс перемогти чемпіона. В результаті таких ходів поза шахівницею обидва шахісти починають здавати — Лібскінд фізично, а Фромм — ментально.
