Мєчислав Кош народився 1944 року у бідній селянській родині під Замостям. Невиліковна і прогресуюча хвороба очей у дитинстві позначилася на всій його подальшій долі. У 12 років він осліп. Один світ перестав для нього існувати, зате відкрився новий. Виявилося, що малий М'єтек має неординарний музичний талант, який завдяки втраті зору, а загостренню слуху зміг повністю себе проявити.
