Початок економічного буму і на цей раз вже капіталістичної ейфорії.Крупний урядовець фон Бом приїжджає в баварське містечко контролювати будівництво і зближується з місцевою мешканкою Марією-Луїзою, яка більшості городян відома як проституююча співачка кабаре Лола. Непереборне лицемірство суспільства виявляється для закоханих серйозним випробуванням.
