В італійському селі на березі моря недалеко від великого міста живе Марчелло — дуже м’який по своїй душевній структурі чоловік із невеликими амбіціями. Він мріє тільки про одне — виїхати в далеку подорож зі своєю улюбленою дочкою. Життя Марчелло ділиться на 3 частини: турбота про його дівчинку Аліду, робота в перукарні для собак під назвою «Догмен» і вельми сумнівні кримінальні справи з місцевим авторитетом Сімончіні. В останнє добрий чоловік втручатися не особливо хоче, але Сімончіні же просить… Це могло би тривати вічно, якби Марчелло не вирішив, що пора боротися за своє життя.Сюжет

17 years-old Giulio is sent by his mother to a boarding school for difficult offspring of rich families. The institution is sort of a “golden prison”, isolated in the Alps, to which inadequate parents delegate the task of educating the ruling class of the future. In this cold and ghastly place the boys are cut off from everything. Adhering to the strict rules of the boarding school is hard, but Giulio finds a good friend in Edoardo, who is maybe a little crazy, but who seems the smartest of all. They find out that security becomes more relaxed at night and they start running away to a nightclub in the middle of the woods. There they meet Elena, a young prostitute whose destiny will be unforgettably linked to theirs. The night is a space of freedom, of new and perturbing experiences for Giulio and Edoardo. But what they don’t know is that their transgressions are part of the educational program of the school.

The Furlough is an ensemble movie, it is the story of four inmates during their 48 hours furlough, of their reality and how it has brought them behind bars. The characters are described with realism, with their contradictions, their desperation, the temptation of an escape, but the cornerstone of the movie is the sincerity of the positive feelings of each and everyone of them: the love of a father for his son, the love for a woman, for friends, and most of all the pursuit of a lost (if ever had) personal dignity and pride. Four characters of different ages and extractions, three man and a woman: Luigi, Donato, Rossana and Angelo.
