У грудні 2005 року Деніела Мак-Гована заарештували федеральні агенти під час загальнонаціональної чистки радикальних екологів, які належали до Earth Liberation Front (Фронту звільнення Землі – ELF). Earth Liberation Front – група, яку ФБР характеризує як "місцеву терористичну загрозу номер один". ELF, що протягом років діяв окремими анонімними осередками, без будь-якого централізованого керівництва, почав влаштовувати підпали проти десятків бізнес-структур, винних у знищенні природи.
