Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyuukai (на українську можна перевести як «Суспільство вивчення сучасної художньої культури») - назва клубу, в обов’язки якого входить вивчення сучасної художньої культури Японії, тобто: аніме, манги, відеоігор, тощо. Сюжет оригінальний. Він вирізняється серед інших у його жанрі хоча б тим, що немає ніяких узятих героїв, ідея серіалу не схожа на інші. Коли певний чоловік вийшов з в’язниці — він точно знав, куди прямує в першу чергу. Поки він відбував покарання, йому пощастило побачити виступ одного відомого ракуґоки (оповідача ракуґо). Він просто закохався у традиційне комічне відтворення оповідачем історії під назвою «Шініґамі», і тепер налаштований стати його учнем. Оповідач, Якумо, ніколи до цього не брав учнів, але, на загальний подив, він приймає до себе колишнього в’язня, давши йому псевдонім «Йотаро». Поки щасливий Йотаро починає своє нове життя, він зустрічає інших людей з життя Якумо, зокрема підопічну Якумо — Конацу.
