Артистка Пола, що залишила цирк по інвалідності чоловіка-акробата, йде з сім'ї до багатої людини, що запропонувала кинути до її ніг нерухомість і серце. Чудове дослідження пороків передреволюційного суспільства, де представлені «господарі життя» - крупні власники, що маніпулюють не тільки капіталами, але і людськими долями.

Волоцюга відвідує карнавал. Там кишеньковий злодій підкидає йому гаманець, щоб врятуватися від арешту. Волоцюгу звинувачують у крадіжці та йому доводиться тікати. Рятуючись від погоні Волоцюга опиняється на манежі цирку прямо під час вистави. Намагаючись сховатись від поліцейського він зриває виступ фокусника, але це дуже подобається публіці. Цирк переживає важкі часи та власник бере Волоцюгу на роботу, побачивши його успіх.
Сюжет
Волоцюга відвідує карнавал. Там кишеньковий злодій підкидає йому гаманець, щоб врятуватися від арешту. Волоцюгу звинувачують у крадіжці та йому доводиться тікати. Рятуючись від погоні Волоцюга опиняється на манежі цирку прямо під час вистави. Намагаючись сховатись від поліцейського він зриває виступ фокусника, але це дуже подобається публіці.
