У невелике приморське містечко прийшла смерть... Карл Хайне, місцевий рибалка, був знайдений мертвим. Його виявили заплутаним в сітях, зі страшною раною на голові. Інший рибалка, по імені Казуо, був звинувачений у вбивстві Карла і заарештований.У місті починається судовий процес, на якому постійно присутній молодий місцевий журналіст Ішмаель Чемберс. На це у нього є свої, таємні причини: дружина підсудного була першим і єдиним коханням Ішмаеля. Він вирішує сам розслідувати обставини таємничої події.
Сюжет
