Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Antonio Capurro, un ladruncolo travestito da prete, viene arrestato dal maresciallo Cottone. In seguito, durante un bombardamento il lestofante riesce a impossessarsi della divisa del poliziotto, lasciandogli l'abito talare. Inizia così una serie di comiche disavventure per i due, che devono eludere i nazi-fascisti che occupano il paese e nascondere i soldati alleati che stanno arrivando di nascosto. Alla fine, il paese verrà liberato ed Antonio sfuggirà ancora una volta al poliziotto.

The day of Chief Constable Saracino begins badly when his new car is stolen. Mrs Ballerini, after had seen his picture on the newspaper, realizes he is her husband and brings him her home. Also Mrs Polacich recognizes him as her husband. More, at one point he is brought to the court as Mr. Lo Bianco accused to be a thief. But soon all his identities are found false for different reasons. He will remain alone with just a dog as a friend.
