1953 рік. Глухе румунське село. Вже 8 років, як країна опинилася у соцтаборі, але комуністам ніяк не вдається звабити принадами світлого майбутнього місцевих селян. Попри всі зусилля агітаторів, люди неохоче вступають до Комуністичної Партії, і взагалі, Румунія досі лишається 100% центральноєвропейською капіталістичною країною за ментальністю. Саме в цей час молоді Янку та Мара вирішують одружитися. Батьки запрошують гостей, ріжуть корови й свині та дістають з льохів добірне румунське вино. Та от невдача! Несподівано помирає радянський вождь Іосіф Сталін і комуністи на 7 днів забороняють будь-які забави, в акурат перед самісіньким весіллям! Невже доведеться викидати наїдки та виливати трунки? Ні! Весілля таки вирішують зіграти, але тихо...
