2123 рік, Будапешт. Точніше, його футуристична версія, яка існує під захисним куполом. Через екологічні умови життя поза цим куполом неможливе: в посушливих пустелях усі рослини й тварини вимерли, а люди живуть лише до 50 років. Після цього їм вживляють спеціальний імплант, який перетворює тіло на дерево. Такий імплант добровільно приймає 32-річна Нора, яка нещодавно втратила сина. Але її чоловік, що тепер ризикує залишитись зовсім один, готовий порушити всі можливі правила, аби врятувати життя коханої.
