Навіть про прошесті п’ятнадцяти років героя переслідує студентський жарт, за який він в 50-х роках був виключений з університету і як ворог народу відправлений до штрафного батальйону. Він плекає надію помститися доценту-кар’єристу, одному з тих, хто був причиною його нещасть. Але помста має гіркий присмак.

This film, chronicling the last days of Czech resistance fighter Maruska Kuderikova (played by Magda Vasaryova), is based on her diaries. Though she was tortured and eventually executed by the Nazis, her diaries indicate that she was optimistic for the humanity of her captors and did not by any means hate them.
