У Форенції ще доволі молодий, але уже з початками склерозу, (забуває анекдоти), архітектор Джуліо Маренго, випадково знайомиться з ровесницею його дочки, симпатичною Франческою. Пороте дуже швидко у нього виникає підозра, що вона, можливо, є його позашлюбною дочкою.
