У 1985 році двоє альпіністів - Джо Сімпсон і Саймон Етс - вирушили підкоряти західний схил Сеула Гранді в Перуанських Андах. Їхньою головною метою був семитисячник, що до цього часу ще не підкорився жодному альпіністові.
