Улюблена іграшка шестирічного хлопчика - ведмедик Кукі. Плюшева іграшка вже дуже стара, в неї розірваний живіт, з якого висипається тирса. Через те, що хлопчик хворіє на астму, мама вирішує викинути Кукі в смітник. Засинаючи, засмучений хлопчик уявляє, як ведмедик хоче повернутися назад додому. Зі звалища він потрапляє до лісу, де мешкають дивні звірі та чудернацькі істоти, про існування яких він і не підозрював, доки жив на поличці в кімнаті свого господаря. У цьому казковому місці Кукі буде боротися зі злом та стане справжнім героєм.

V jedné zapadlé brdské hospodě, kde odpradávna sídlili čerti, se usadí dva vykutálení podvodníci - Berta (M. Hádek) a Vitouš (P. Zedníček). Spolu s nimi tu tráví čas i čert snad té nejnižší kategorie, čertovský učeň a outsider Záprtek (J. Mádl). Když ale hospodu navštíví pekelná inspekce, vydávají se oba vykutálení podvodníčci za čerty. Ovšem čerti to nejsou, a tak váženou pekelnou institucí důrazně požadovaný úpis ani nemají, ani ho nedokážou sehnat. Pošlou pro něj tedy nešťastného Záprtka. Smůla je, že také Záprtek nevyniká žádnou z pekelných dovedností a s úkolem si neumí poradit. Právě v tom čase v Jílovém jistá velice bohatá milostpaní (N. Konvalinková), která miluje nade vše zlato, zatouží po zlatých očích. Ty ovšem nedokáže vyrobit ani zlatnický mistr, a tak pro oči ze zlata musí jít služebná Anička (T. Pauhofová), tak trochu za trest, protože jí milostpaní neprávem podezřívá z krádeže. Jenže - kde se dají najít oči ze zlata, to nikdo neví. Snad jedině v pekle by mohli něco tušit. A tak se zoufalá Anička ocitá před pekelnou branou. Naštěstí se tu setkává se stejně zoufalým a nešťastným čertem Záprtkem. Jak už to v životě bývá, když se dva, kterým osud zatím nepřál, potkají, nejspíš v sobě najdou zalíbení. A stejné je to i s Aničkou a Záprtkem. A tak si s úkoly poradí společně..
