Коли на початку 60-их років, генерал де Голь вирішив надати Алжиру незалежність, він натрапив на протистояння французьких переселенців, які давно вже жили в цій країні. Частина армії повстала проти нього. Так народилася ОСА (Організація Секретної Армії) Замахи, напади, викрадення і вбивства спустошили Алжир потім поширилися у Франції. "Змова" описує один з маловідомих епізодів цієї боротьби, яка призвела до численних жертв, хоч і не протиставляла прямо дві армії, як громадянська війна в США.
