«Любителі історії» зняті за п’єсою знаного британського драматурга Елана Беннета, що вона ішла в Національному театрі Лондона протягом 2004-2005 років. І всі виконавці головних ролей у виставі грають їх також у фільмі. Варто ще зауважити, що режисер стрічки Ніколас Гітнер, принаймні, на той час був керівником згаданого театру. Й безумовно, від театральности в такому визначеному сюжеті відійти було неможливо, але й насильно її долати також не випадало.У результі, постає історія, в якій немає яскравих подій чи складних переворотних моментів, у якій превалює не дія, а дещо інше. Скажімо, тут багато діалогів – про сенс життя, про літературу і, безумовно, належним чином – про історію. Й тут часом дискутуються проблеми, що їх і в житті зазвичай воліють не піднімати.
