[THIS PLOT SUMMARY CONTAINS SPOILERS] Shortly after 1800 hours, 11 July 2006, Mumbai was shattered by seven bomb blasts on Western Railway stations: Matunga, Mahim, Khar, Bandra, Jogeshwari, Borivali, and Bhayandar. It took the Police and ambulance over an hour to attend at various sites. This incident changes lives of Thomas, originally from Chennai, who sells tea from his bike; Rupali Joshi, a TV News reporter, who has to deal with the death of her to-be spouse, Ajay Kumar Pradhan; Suresh, in debt, starts to suspect all Muslims, especially Yusuf; Inspector Tukaram Patil, about to retire, goes about collecting bribes as usual, much to the chagrin of his embittered, honest and soon to-be suspended subordinate, Sunil Kadam; while Nikhil Agarwal, a Nationalist and environmentalist, debates whether he should re-locate to the United States, along with his pregnant wife, Sejal.

Raghunath becomes a respected hit man, with Dedh Footiya as his accomplice. With Raghunath in his gang Vitthal Kaanya hits a peak in the Mumbai underworld. He is protected by a politician who uses Raghunath for his needs. While BabbanRao (Home Minister) relies on Raghunath, there are some others who despise Raghunath, and are just waiting in the sidelines to see when Raghunath makes an error. Raghunath does so, and hence becomes an embarrassment for BabbanRao. Soon Raghunath is on the run, both from the police, and BabbanRao's men. Raghunath knows now that he must protect his wife, parents, and family, as they too are in danger. Then Raghunath comes to know that the police have been ordered to kill him in an "encounter", and Raghunath now realizes that there is no escape from this harsh reality. Unable to save himself from police, Raghu comes back to his home and asks his mother to shot him down for a graceful end of life. Based in Varanasi, Shivshankar Sahay lives a poor lifestyle along with his wife, Savitri, and two daughters, Vibhavari and Subhavari. The family struggles and at times is even unable to pay the electricity charges. They attempt in vain to rent their heritage yet dilapidated home to a filmmaker. When Shivshankar's elder brother, Rajshankar, files a petition a court to take over the house, he has a stroke and is hospitalized. Vibhavari tells the family that she has managed to obtain a job in Mumbai and re-locates. She then regularly sends money and is not only able to improve their lifestyle but also has Subhavari obtain a Masters Degree. Subhavari completes her education and also re-locates to Mumbai, where she is reunited with her sister. Subhavari then meets with Vivaan and both fall in love with other. Vibhavari gets to meet Vivaan and approves of him, while Subhavari is introduced to Vivaan's grandmother. A marriage is then planned in Varanasi, and it is only at the 11th hour that Subhavari will find out that her sister will not only not be attending her marriage but will never be able to return to her home ever again.

Based in Varanasi, Shivshankar Sahay lives a poor lifestyle along with his wife, Savitri, and two daughters, Vibhavari and Subhavari. The family struggles and at times is even unable to pay the electricity charges. They attempt in vain to rent their heritage yet dilapidated home to a filmmaker. When Shivshankar's elder brother, Rajshankar, files a petition a court to take over the house, he has a stroke and is hospitalized. Vibhavari tells the family that she has managed to obtain a job in Mumbai and re-locates. She then regularly sends money and is not only able to improve their lifestyle but also has Subhavari obtain a Masters Degree. Subhavari completes her education and also re-locates to Mumbai, where she is reunited with her sister. Subhavari then meets with Vivaan and both fall in love with other. Vibhavari gets to meet Vivaan and approves of him, while Subhavari is introduced to Vivaan's grandmother. A marriage is then planned in Varanasi, and it is only at the 11th hour that Subhavari will find out that her sister will not only not be attending her marriage but will never be able to return to her home ever again.

But on the very next day of the marriage, he must leave for Jamnagar to expand business, and can return only after 5 years. A tearful Lachchi bids him goodbye, but to her pleasant surprise he returns within a few days, and informs his dad that he met a holy sage who had instructed him to return as he will find five gold coins every morning. Pleased with this, Bhanwarlal does not object to Kishanlal's return. After four years, it is now time for the camel race again, and this time Bhanwarlal's camel wins, much to the chagrin of the Thakur who suspects witchcraft. Then Lachchi gets pregnant and on the day of the child's birth the family finds out to their horror that there is an impostor who is claiming to be Kishanlal, and the husband of Lachchi. The family and the town are unable to decide who is real and who the impostor, as both look identical, so they decide to approach the king and do his bidding. The question remains, who is the second Kishanlal and what possible motive could he have for coming to claim Lachchi as his wife?

In India, about 260 BC in the Empire of Magadha, the Prince Asoka (Shah Rukh Khan) survives to many betrayals of his brothers, leaded by the evil Susima (Ajit Kumar), who wants to kill him to inherit the throne. His mothers orders Asoka to leave Magadha, and while traveling, he meets Princess Kaurwaki (Karriena Kapoor) and her brother, Prince Aryan (Sooraj Balaji) from Kalinga, who are undercover and protected by General Bheema (Rahul Dev). Asoka and Kaurwaki falls in love for each other, but the mother of Asoka calls him back to Magadha. When he returns, he does not find Kaurwaki, who was attacked by traitors of Kalinga. When Asoka's mother is killed by a man of Susima, Asoka becomes mad, kills all his evil brothers but Sugatra, who escapes to Kalinga. Asoka decides to conquer Kalinga, but in the end, he concludes that he has not built an empire, but conquered only corpses and destroyed everything, and he decides to spread love and the Buddhism.
