Прототипи героїв — реальні бойові побратими А.Ківікаса.У фільмі показано легендарний бій, який відбувся 31 січня 1919 року за важливий залізничний вузол Валга (відомий як бій за хутір Паю — Paju lahing). До складу естонського відділу під проводом Юліуса Куперянова (Julius Kuperjanov) входило багато юнаків, зокрема близько сотні гімназистів з Тарту... Ворогів удвічі більше — 1200 більшовиків (латвійських стрільців) з гарматами та двома бронепотягами... Це був один з найбільш кривавих боїв у війні за незалежність Естонії.
