Серпень 1945 року. У Великобританію за програмою реабілітації «дітей війни» приїжджає три сотні підлітків, які дивом вціліли в фашистських концтаборах. У них немає нікого і нічого, крім скромних пожитків і страшного досвіду за плечима. Ніхто з них не знає, що чекає їх на новому місці в Озерному краї, але вони не залишають надії на світле майбутнє, адже найстрашніше вже позаду.
