За мотивами поезії Тараса Шевченка «За байраком байрак» з циклу «У казематі».У останній третині XVIII ст. гетьман уклав союз з турками, маючи намір з їхньою допомогою захопити Річ Посполиту. На знак вдячності туркам люди гетьмана гнали цілі села своїх же одноплемінників і продавали їх у рабство до Кафи. У цей же час очільник Січі дізнавшись про це, наказав знайти і покарати зрадників свого народу. Курінні козаки наздогнали три сотні работоргівців біля одного хутора, де вони були порубані на частини, позбавлені натільних хрестів і викинуті у річку, щоб земля українська не прийняла зрадників.

Three military men, seen inside a fortification, are firing on an unseen enemy force. The call for reinforcements but ladders appear signaling the enemy is about to overrun this position. As they do all the military men run inside the nearby building and close a large door. Four enemy soldiers and an officer breach the fortification and try to break in the door. Failing this the officer call for the use of explosives. All the enemy soldiers take cover as the door is blown down. The officer is the first to return ordering his men to enter the building. As they follow his order he urges even more men to enter but a shot from within rings out killing the officer.

A Confederate officer is called off to war. He leaves his wife and daughter in the care of George, his faithful Negro servant. After the officer is killed in an exciting battle sequence, George continues in his caring duties, faithful to his trust. Events continue to turn for the worse when invading Yankee soldiers arrive to loot and torch the widow's home. George saves the officer's daughter and battle sword by braving the flames.
