У 2022 році, в результаті збільшення життєвого циклу Реплікантів 8 серії, людство, не погодившись із цим почало їх переслідування та знищення. Кілька уцілілих реплікантів планують диверсію для знищення баз даних з інформацією про них, що дасть їм можливість спокійно жити. Дане аніме було знято на замовлення Дені Вільньова - режисера фільму "Той, хто біжить по лезу 2049", як передісторія до його фільму і відображення ключових подій між 2019 та 2049 роками. Усього було замовлено 3 короткометражних фільми, один з них анімаційний.
