Bosko is a construction worker, whistling happily as he uses his riveter, and making musical instruments out of everything in sight. The mice laying bricks dance as they work. Bosko uses a handsaw to decapitate a mouse and then bounce the mouse's head and its body (which is frantically trying to retrieve the head) even higher. Later, the reconnected mouse and a rivet-eating goat send a beam up to Bosko, who rides it high into the air. From this lofty position, he spots Honey in her high-rise apartment. He plucks musical notes out of the ropes of a pulley, and then uses the floating notes to step from his beam into the apartment. He puts sheet music in Honey's typewriter, and types out music as if it were a piano. Honey dances to the music, periodically disconnecting her torso from her legs. Bosko grabs the goat, which is now filled with hot air and floating like a balloon, and plays it like bagpipes. But a sudden spray of goat's milk knocks Bosko to the ground, splitting him into several selves, which play the bricks on a wall like piano keys.

Owen Suskind was a boy of considerable promise, until he developed autism at the age of 3. As Owen withdrew into his silent state, his parents almost lost hope that he find some way to interact with his world in some meaningful way. However, that way was found through animated films, especially those of the Walt Disney Company, which provided Owen a way to understand the world through its stories to the point of creating his own. This film covers the life of Owen and how he manages to become as functional as possible with the help of Disney and his family to the point of having his own a life. However, Owen soon learns as well that there is more to real life than what Disney can illustrate in animation even as his family prepares itself for an uncertain future with him.

In this examination, interrelationships are considered dialectically--land/sky, bordered/borderless, old/new tech--while moments of stasis are shown as being sublated by entropy. Vulgar Fractions was shot entirely single frame with a digital camera and an intervalometer. Sound is composed from field recordings taken on location. Additional samples of farm machinery taken by Seth Chrisman, Jon Rhodig and Scott Thompson. Made with the kind support of the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.
